A STUPID QUESTION
(BY – SOURABH SHUKLA)
National Flag and Nationality : Before reading this article you all should know that I am not an anti-national. I love my country and I have a whole and sole belief in the constitution of my country. Throughout this article you would get to know about both sides of a coin. So, don’t be in a hurry or don’t judge too quickly.
Also , live and let live.
“A THOUGHTFUL MIND, WHEN IT SEES A NATIONAL FLAG SEES NOT THE FLAG BUT THE NATION ITSELF”
–Henry Ward Beecher
Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization. When Mahatma Gandhi quoted these lines I am sure that he must have dreamed about a country which is prosperous, a country where god recites in the heart of every human being.
You all must be wondering why I am exaggerating this topic too much. What’s that stupid question that i am talking about. So , lets get on to it directly.
“WHY WE NEED TO STAND FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN THE CINEMA HALLS”
“AM I LESS PATRIOTIC IF I AM NOT STANDING FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN THE CINEMA HALLS”
Before answering both of them let me answer a more important question then both of them for you and that is – what is a nation ?
A nation stands for all the people living in a country.
We are not a developed country like those in the european union , america or russia. We are a developing country which needs to be developed and development is a process that requires unity and integrity between the people of a country who are willing to make their country a developed country.
So keeping in mind that our freedom fighters must have made different symbols to symbolize the unity and integrity of the country. The national anthem is among one of those symbols. So, each time when you stand in the honour of the national anthem you are standing in the honour of 1.3 billion people of this country.
And if that’s not enough reason for you to understand the importance of standing in the honour of the national anthem.
You have a counter question that “Why do I need to stand in the honour of the national anthem in the cinema halls. I can go and work for my country’s welfare helping the needy ones. Does that make me less patriotic?”
No, that doesn’t make you less patriotic at all. You can contribute to the welfare of this country.but when we are talking about a nation we tend to bring complex cultures into one identity of some sort and that can be done by some common community processes for all the people of the country. They are the processes in which many people at one time can participate and show their love and respect for the nation or 1.3 billion people.
Then some intellectuals would say why in cinema halls or why necessarily in cinema halls.
See it’s the most visited place in the country by people where they go with their families and friends and where following such a process won’t disturb or distract them from following the process of their religious identity.
You must need to understand that in every society there are norms which we need to follow.
Norms are unwritten rules that are considered normal amongst the society. It is not illegal if you are not following them . But yes you will be considered against the society in some way or the other.
India is not an Anthem, flag, emblem or etc. India stands for the 1.3 billion people who care for the justice , liberty , equality and fraternity of each other.
